Dresser Bedding Collection
This extravagant oversized light khaki and gold collection with accents of soft aqua blue damask was inspired by the same type of large scale gold damask found in Mrs. Vanderbilt's bedroom at Biltmore. Edith Vanderbilt, like her husband George, was a member of a prominent family. Among her ancestors were Peter Stuyvesant, the first governor of Dutch colonial New York in the mid-17th century, and several respected senators, judges, and mayors. Orphaned at the age of ten, Edith Dresser and her sisters were raised by their maternal grandmother in Newport, Rhode Island. According to contemporary accounts, she was considered a very charming young lady and the perfection of hostesses.
