Strengthening our supply chain through diversity.
By having a diverse supply chain we enhance our ability to meet customers' needs, earn their loyalty and achieve our business goals. We actively seek opportunities to do business with certified minority- and women-owned business enterprises in order to encourage economic empowerment. This helps in building community infrastructure through localized employment, small business development, and support of community organizations.
The Belk Supplier Diversity Program is focused on non-resale products and services (such as general services, software, operating supplies and equipment). In order to qualify as a minority- or women-owned business enterprise the entity must be recognized as a for profit enterprise, regardless of size, physically located in the United States or its trust territories, and at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by either a female or a member of a US government recognized ethnic group.
Belk accepts certifications from the Womens Business Enterprise National Business Council (WBENC), the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and the National Womens Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC). If you are a minority- or women-owned enterprise based in the U.S. but you are not certified by one of the councils noted above, please reference their websites for certification information.
“Belk is committed to doing business with certified minority- and women-owned business enterprises. This strengthens our supplier base and enables us to benefit from the innovative products, ideas and business practices offered by these businesses.”
Tim Belk, chairman and CEO
