ClarificationNotice that a great many reviewers here recommend sizing up on 511s. Yet many others say the fit is good. The point is that the jeans are INCONSISTENT in their sizing. They are not predictably too small or too large. The only way to safely get your right fit is to buy in a store.
Or maybe not. Many people suggest not machine-drying. Meanwhile, the company itself does recommend machine-drying at medium heat. So, even if you buy in a store, there's no guarantee the jeans will retain the good fit after following the company's own recommendation. That's exactly what happened to me.
That's really crazy.

Best pair of jeans I ownThese are the best pair of jeans I've ever owned. They fit me perfectly. I will say that Levi's does have consistency problems in the 511 line of jeans, but I was lucky enough to get the right pair for me.
Do no wash these jeans! These jeans are raw denim, meaning they were not factory washed after they had been dyed! This is on purpose as to create fades that fit your body after a long period of time, etc. I've only washed these jeans ONCE in over 2 years. If you do need to wash them, do some research on washing raw denim or you will ruin your pair just like all the people complaining on the reviews.

Great jeans, inconsistent sizingI have three pairs of these jeans now, all size 28. One (black stretch) is so loose in the waist they fall down without a belt, with at least an inch of ease in each thigh. One (khaki) is pretty well-fitted, and one (indigo) is super tight out of the wash, but loosens to a perfect fit after a few wears.
I still like the jeans and will keep buying them when they wear out, but the variations in size bug me. I'd much rather have access to the measurements of the jeans themselves than an unreliable size chart.
Other than that, they are my favorite androgynous, close-fitting, non-saggy-butt-having jeans.

ShrinkageI've been buying Levi's from their website for several years now and usually have success. However, this pair that I ordered was far from it. Upon receiving the jeans, I tried them on and they fit well and were comfortable. I of course washed the jeans -- following the directions verbatim -- and upon wearing them again, I could barely stand. I felt like Kramer in that episode of Seinfeld when he decided to switch over to Jeans. Ironically, the label on the jeans do warn of shrinkage up to "5%". However, they accidentally omitted the last part which should have included "up to 5%...with a standard deviation of 10%."

I give up on Levi'sI've bought Levi's online for many years. At least 60 percent of them have turned out to have completely inconsistent sizing. But I kept trying.
So, last week, I decided to go to a store. I bought 3 pairs -- a 513, a 501, and a 511. The latter fit me great in the store. I took them home and put them through a brief rinse cycle followed by drying on low heat. They shrunk to an extent I could barely get them over my calf muscles! Yet they fit perfectly in the waist.
The 501s fit fine after washing although they are a lot slimmer than the ones I bought years ago. Ditto for the 513s, but the fabric on all three pairs is absurdly thin. I assume this is the standard now.
I'm really throwing in the towel. People have complained for years about the changes in Levi's, but the company is obviously not interested in applying uniform standards.

Great....butFirst, the description here is inaccurate. These are 99 percent cotton and 1 percent elastene -- not simply "cotton."
Second, beware Levi's unbelievably inconsistent sizing. I bought a pair of these in 100 percent cotton in a store and they fit great, even after a run through a rinse cycle and tumbling in a dryer on low.
These, I'm afraid to wash. They fit good and I like the rigid fabric, but, unlike the earlier pair, they are as tight as I'm willing to wear, elastene or not. So, I'm not gonna wash them. I might mention that both pairs were made in Mexico.
So size up or take a risk.

These are supersoft with a little extra stretch .I think I'm the only person dumb enough to buy a pair of Levi's at this price . But I did and I am so impressed . These jeans fit like a glove .I have 2% elastin so I think it's a little more strict than usual which is good because it feels like I'm wearing a pair of sweatpants with the Jean look . Hey still have the slim fit but when you sit down they move with your body . The price is a little high which I don't understand but I think they were worth it .I do wish I had an explanation why these were so much more expensive???

My new favorite pair of jeansI am 5'7" and have always had trouble finding jeans that were the right length and also had a good fit otherwise; not with this pair though. At 29" the 511 fits perfectly lengthwise. The waist was actually closest to 32" that I have gotten in many many years and I am glad that the sizing isn't defiled by the wave of vanity sizing. I have a lean build (BMI: 21.9) and for me the fit is not as quite as snug as "Hipster" jeans and not as roomy as the 559s (which i also love); it's perfect.
The cherry on this cake was the color though. The rigid dragon is an exquisitely dark shade for those that are looking for a non-blue/black-but-not-jet-black shade. It is quite simply, gorgeous.
This is currently my favorite pair of jeans that I own.
