What has Levi's done?I needed new jeans since my last pair of Levi's finally wore out after approximately eight or nine years. Naturally, I came back to Levi's.
I purchased two pairs. First, I should have heeded the warning of others who said the colors online are misleading--they are. Second, the fit is as expected for a 32/32. The quality of the material, on the other hand, is quite noticeably worse. I'd say they are on par with jeans from Old Navy now, but at twice the price! There is no way these will last as many years. I would happily pay more for quality. It's a shame: I simply can't recommend Levi's for more than the $20-$30 range.

Counterfeit materialsThe last 4 pairs bought in local stores convinced me to stop buying Levi's.
Side by side with 559's bought a year ago, it's obvious the material has changed. The imports they sell now are NOT quality cotton, and the dye reeks even after multiple washings. The smell just will not go away, no matter how many times they are washed. Two months after buying them, there are holes developing in the upper thighs where the pockets are pressing against the "denim" from keys and change. (Yet the pockets themselves hold up) Lesson learned. I had hoped the first pair was a fluke, and should have stopped before buying more.
These are going to a local charity.

Super thin denimLet me start off by saying that these jeans fit well and I really like the Indie Blue color. I've been wearing these jeans for years. The problem I have, and its a big one, is that the material is so thin now that the belt loops pop off and leave a nice 1/4 inch hole where they were sewn in. They also tend to wear quickly at the bottom of the legs where the material is folded over. I remember when Levi's used to last for years. The last 6 pairs have only lasted a year each (and I only wear them on weekends#; the last #and my last) one only 3 weekends.

Stretch - YuckI didn't realize these were stretch jeans. Not good at all. I prefer the standard denim. I will not purchase these again.

Inconsistent sizingOne thing I've noticed over the years is the lack of consistency in how a pair of jeans fit. The reason is that they are made all around the world, and unless you get lucky enough to get 2 pair that are made in the same country they won't fit the same. So you order a pair and they fit great, you order another pair same model, size, and they fit terrible, because they are made in a different country.

Inconsistency in sizeI've had this issue before with Levi's. I'm size 30W. I have bought a couple of 559s which fit perfect. Recently I bought another pair of 559s in a different color (I buy 559s because I have muscular thighs) but they run big, as big as a 32W I would guess. I'm definitely returning these. This same problem happened with a pair of 541s I bought but didn't return those as I missed the 60 day deadline.

Combo of 559 cut and stretch fabric really worksSecond time I've bought 'stretch' jeans, and I'm really pleased with the comfort, especially in the waist. The fabric still feels like traditional denim, moderately heavy with a sturdy, abrasion resistant surface, but with just enough stretch to bend where I curve. The stretchiness makes the waist feel a little bigger than the stated size at first, but I quickly got used to it (wear a belt, or you might find it sliding down). And as a middle-aged hockey player with relatively big thighs and butt, the 559 cut really works for me.

Excellent DurabilityI always have and always will love Levi's. This particular fit number is all I can wear due to a large rear and abdomen as well as being sway backed. They are comfortable and durable. they usually last about a year and 1/2 for me but I work intensive manual labor type jobs. I can bend, reach, twist, and run if need be all the while feeling comfortable.
