Dressing your Maids

Dressing your bridesmaids can be fun but it can also be trick. You have a lot of freedom to make some fun decisions and a lot of choices. The more choices, the harder it can be. We've pulled together a few tips to help you make your decisions.

Pick a Color Scheme

There are a couple different ways to go about selecting the color of your bridesmaid dresses. Whenever making color palette decisions a good point of reference is your local paint store. It may sound a little unconventional but where else do you have such a large assortment of colors at your disposal. You may decide to pick one color for all of your bridesmaids to wear. One trend we are beginning to see are bridesmaids each wearing a different color dress. Another emerging trend is selecting gradients of one color. For example choosing pink as your overall color-way and then selecting dresses, each in a different shade of pink.

Allow Them to be Individuals

It's very tempting for the bride to select every element of the bridesmaid's attire. However, weddings where the bridesmaids represent their own personalities, turn out to be very beautiful and unique. Letting them pick their own hairstyles or accessories (with a few mild guidelines) are great ways to allow them to express themselves.

Dress to your Party (not the magazines)

Between today and the day you make your final dress decision, you will see hundreds of options. One very important thing to keep in mind is the comfort of your maids. Not every person has the same body type. Some dress styles may not compliment the figure of every bridesmaid. Selecting a dress that is not flattering on some of your bridal party may result in unflattering wedding photos. And think about it, how would you feel prancing down the aisle (all eyes on you) in a dress that highlights all of your flaws? One way to ensure every maid wears a complimentary style is to select a color and length of a dress and allow a few different neckline options. Another is to select a dress style that compliments many figure types.
