Rated 5 out of 5 by Someguy from About IIII Instead of IV There are many theories as to why clockmakers use IIII instead of IV. One says that King Louis XIV demanded it be IIII and another says that Roman clock makers used IIII because of their god Jupiter, spelled IVPPITER in latin, started with IV and they felt a god should not be represented on a clock. All watch/clock makers now use IIII instead of IV, so Fossil has the correct form of the number 4. Don't be worried about it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kris from Pretty Cool Watch Girlfriend got this earlier for my birthday as it came highly recommended and she has had a Fossil before. She wasn't sure I'd like it as I'm all about ulitility and not ornamentation in what I wear. She also personalized it with a beautifully calligraphed message. I love it! I like the Roman Numeral IIII for 4, but confused at first as to why IV instead of IX for 9. The more I looked at it, the more it made sense then I realized that it's the cut-off, layered effect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AWoman from About Roman Numeral IIII the story of: iiii, not iv Aug 6, 2012 Roman numerals on a watch face instantly convey a polished look and feel. But if you look closely at the handsome new additions to our dress watch collections, you'll notice that the numerals are not quite what you'd expect. The number 4 is rendered as IIII, not IV. This might seem strange at first glance, but there's actually a great story behind the reason. Emma Roman Stainless Our new Emma dress watch. In the 18th century, Louis the Fourteenth didn't like the looks of XIV. He insisted that everyone use XIIII instead, ordering Swiss and French clockmakers to fall in line with his preference. As a result, 'IIII' became the standard way to present the number 4, not only in Switzerland and France, but also in Europe and America. Ansel Roman Skeletal The newest edition to our Ansel Collection But the story doesn't quite end there. As a deliberate insult to Louis, British watchmakers continued to use 'IV' for the number 4. Today, both are considered correct, but if you find a watch with 'IV' on the face, it's probably from the UK! Nicely done Fossil! Rated 1 out of 5 by Juan from Returned promptly I owned this watch for about two hours then promptly returned it. It was a pain to use. The watch did not function properly and the instructions were not at all helpful. There are much better choices on the market.

Rated 3 out of 5 by jamessalepe from Good looking watch. It´s a nice watch, good looking and elegant, but, it will be better if the watch has the date on the dial as the most good brand watches have. In addition, the crown has the first click but without any utility. When I turn the crown it sounds like changing the date. It seems as the date is covered.
