The one and only. Whether paired with faded jeans or a shift dress, the Engineer 12R is all attitude. Moto-inspired, this boot makes entrances, treads loudly and stirs up trouble. Made of greasy leather, this boot gets even better with age.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shelly from Second pair of Frye boots! I bought these two weeks ago after agonizing for months over what style of Frye's to get it this time. I already own a pair of the black harness model which I loved, however, I wanted something a bit different . They are everything I hoped they would be. So tough, so versatile, timelessly stylish- they scream quality. I wear them with skirts, dresses, pants and jeans. My only warning is they need to be broken in, it took these past two weeks for them to start loosening up. Also I love that they are Made in the USA, it feels good to support craftsmanship here at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SapphireSkies from Comfortable for every day Several months ago, I bought this boot in Gaucho and liked it so much I bought another in Black, both while on sale (a rare event). I bought my usual size, 7.5M, and found I needed to loosen the buckles over the instep but otherwise they fit fine, even while wearing thick socks--they would be too long and probably too wide in the heel if I sized up. The Gaucho color is a variable medium-dark brown, meant to look a bit scruffy, while the Black is solid and smooth. Both look great with jeans or cords. Being on the older side myself, I wish the insole had more cushioning, but thick or cushioned socks help enough. In short, I love these boots, and hope they last for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by asiananthropologie13 from Substantial Boots! I have a few Fryes and this has to be the most substantial pair I now own. Great support and extremely comfortable. The leather seems a bit thicker than my pair of Campus. I normally wear a 5.5 and ordered it in that size. If you want a boot to wear with thick socks, I'd go 1/2 a size up. I initially read all of the reviews about this being the, be all and end all of all boots and I'd have to say, they were all right about that! I also love the fact that they are made here in the U.S. If you want a pair of Fryes that will wow you, this is it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Karen from My first Frye boots! I bought these after seeing them on sale at 6pm in Dark Brown even though they called them Smoke. I'm a US 6.5 but ordered a 7 and I'm glad I did for a little extra wiggle room! Now, these are not high arch/instep friendly. But I'm going to get vamp stretchers and expand the area where the bottom buckle strap is so I can slip them on without a fight. The heel height is perfect and I love the not so obvious oil resistant and treaded soles. The color in person is beautiful. The photo I added doesn't do the color justice. The dark brown does not have any golden/orange tones like Frye shows in their photo. It really is a true neutral smoke brown. I absolutely love my first Frye boots. I don't know why I waited so long to get them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LeahP from My End-of-the-World Boot I bought these boots as a gift to myself a couple of months ago. I have 3 other pairs of Fryes (harness short, harness americana, campus 14L) and love them, but I wanted a pair in red, and with a rubber sole. These boots definitely run 1/2 small. I had to order up so that the arch support fit my foot properly, and so I had room in the toe box. These boots were a nightmare to break in - took many walks with my dog and suffered some blisters on my heels - but once they broke in, they became my favorite pair. I feel like I can stomp around any terrain in them. I fondly call them my end-of-the-world boots because if I had to grab one pair of boots and live in them, these would be it. I love the burnt red; goes with so much of my stuff, even some pinks. The rubber soles add enough cushioning that my feet never get tired. I love the height of the 12r and think they go better with dresses than the 8r; the extra height adds some femininity to an otherwise tough-looking boot. I only buy made in America Fryes, and these are.

Rated 3 out of 5 by rinathirteena from Impossible to get on This is the third pair of Fryes I've bought that have ridiculously high vamps. I can hardly get my foot inside them, and for this pair I actually sized up because of the other reviews. My last two pairs took a year (!) to break in enough to get them on without throwing my back out. What gives? I don't think I have a very high instep, and I can't even get these on with bags on (which really isn't a solution). Once they're on they seem comfortable enough but I can't keep breaking a sweat putting my darn boots on in the morning!

Rated 5 out of 5 by breddy91 from Best Boots Ever! These may me the most comfortable pair of boots that I have ever owned. I am a size 7, but I decided to go a half size larger, 7.5. Footbed is a little narrow and with no zipper assistance to ease your foot in the boot, half sizes are a gift of heaven. I tend to over use and over wear all of my shoes, I am thankful that these are so well made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Impressed from Lasts forever I bought mine 7 years ago to wear in a snowy winter on the East coast. I still wear them. The boot leather is in perfect condition. With use, metal buckles have scraped and the top strap wore out more quickly than the rugged leather of the rest of the boot. Otherwise, these seem to be invincible and much higher quality than any other boot I have worn.
