Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE!!! LOVE!!! LOVE!!! I've used this product for 10+ years I am surprised to read the reviews about not being able to use this without the activator! I was taught to use this with water and have done so for over 10 years! While this does take some technique practice and replacing the applicator whenever the bristle start to flare out too much. (I only use the Laura Mercier flat eyeliner brush) I have never had an issue with this product being used with water. I love how it makes my eyelashes look thicker and it stays on all day without any irritation. Please do not discontinue this product!! It is the only one of its kind that I can find. However, if customers feel strongly about the activator perhaps it should be brought back!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I have used this eyeliner for years and loved it -it was the only contact-friendly eyeliner that worked for me. However, Laura Mercier has recently discontinued the Tightline Activator - a solution that you drop into the eyeliner compact that turns it into eyeliner. Because they have discontinued the Tightline Activator, the instructions now tell you to use water with the eyeliner compact. Water does NOT work! It does not turn the eyeliner compact into a paste and it does not stay on your eyes. Laura Mercier has removed the main ingredient of the duo, thus rendering it useless. Do not waste your money!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product! I love this eyeliner. The colors are great and it lasts until I take it off. There is a definite learning curve. I started with the smokey eye brush, then the tight line brush and now use the pointed eyeliner brush along with the tight line brush. I do use the activator. I know it is kind of expensive but love the results. I have learned to empty the dropper before closing it up so there isn't back flow into the top where it can dry up. I also make sure to store the bottle upright. I have the forest green, grey, bleu marine and plum riche. The only one I am not crazy about is the grey..it has a bluish tint, in my opinion. I hope this product is never discontinued...I'll never use an eyeliner pencil again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm in love with this product, used with ELF lock and seal I understand they discontinued the activator for this product, but all you need to make it perform perfectly is a little bit of ELF's lock and seal. Drop one drop in your eyeliner, mix it up and voila, perfect eyeliner that will stay on all day, glide on easily and not budge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back tightliner activator I'm so disappointed that Laura decided to discontinue the tightline activator. It was such an amazing product and kept my eyeliner on all day. Yes, you can use water but it doesn't last nearly as long. Please bring it back!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I found a perfect replacement for the activator It's by a company called Gorgeous Cosmetics and is called "cake eyeliner sealant". It is sold at Nordstrom and some other places. It works perfect with the tightline eyeliner and doesn't flake or smudge whatsoever.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Discontinued the Activator?!?! Now the cake is useless! Anyone who says they can use it without the activator must be talking about a different product. This cake eyeliner doesn't work without the activator and now I have several cakes that are useless! I've gone back to MAC who makes great cake eyeliner to be used with water but it doesn't stay on like the LM one did. I'm so sad because after all these years of wearing liquid liner, I'd FINALLY found the holy grail of no smudge, long lasting, deep color that didn't fade, smudge or flake. :-(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used this product successfully with water for years! I love this product. It is the only eyeliner I have used for years. If you use this product with the flat-tip brush, I find it goes on easily and smoothly. My only caveat is that I have to draw the line twice - once for each eye and then go back and fill in again for a smooth dark line. I had bought the activator when it first came out, but decided it was not worth the money and that I did not need any extra chemicals near my eyes.
