Executive Trainee Program

Belk is committed to investing in the careers of recent college graduates, as they enter our Executive Trainee program. Executive Trainees are the rock stars of their field, and the Executive Trainee program is a comprehensive development program which prepares you to move quickly into an accelerated career path at Belk in the following areas.

As an Executive Trainee, you are exposed to executive-level subject matter experts during weeks of structured developmental training.

Retail Management Opportunities

The Stores Executive Management Trainee program is an intensive 6-month development program, designed to sharpen your ability to drive results through strong business acumen and leadership skills. As a Stores Executive Management Trainee, you will gain experience and exposure to various functional areas of the store. After successful completion of the program, you will be placed as a Sales Team Manager, where you will continue to develop and:

  • Manage a multi-million dollar business and drive the profitability of that department
  • Lead and inspire a team, creating a culture of service-excellence
  • Analyze business trends and work with store and regional management to influence merchandise presentation and selection

 

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication and computer skills
  • Retail selling / management and customer service experience
  • True interest in Assistant Store Manager and Store Manager careers
  • Willingness to relocate within the Southeast

Retail Merchandising Opportunities

The Merchandising Executive Trainee program is an intensive 14-week development program, created to provide hands-on training in the areas of Buying, Planning, Product Development and e-Commerce. As an Executive Trainee, you will participate in a variety of instructor-led workshops, e-Learning modules, project assignments and webinars to prepare you for an exciting career in Merchandising. After successful completion of the program, you will be placed into one of the following positions:

  • Assistant Buyer
  • Assistant Planner
  • Assistant Product Manager
  • Assistant Web Merchandising Specialist

 

Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Previous internship experience in a related industry / field
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a passion for good customer service
  • Technically competent with an emphasis in MS Office
  • Strong business acumen
  • Passion in your field of interest

Belk Internship Program Opportunities

Store Management

Gain hands-on exposure to various management roles in Visual Merchandising, Human Resources, Shipping & Receiving, Operations, Sales Support and Loss Prevention, while mastering the art of customer service.

Buying/Planning

Gain one-of-a-kind real world experience working with Belk merchants and planners at our corporate offices in Charlotte, NC. If you have a passion for the analytical side of the business, and an interest in tracking fashion trends, this experience will give you insight into the role of corporate retail buying and planning. Strong consideration is given to candidates with previous retail experience.

Product Development

Witness firsthand the basic merchandising, product development and production of the private brands found exclusively at Belk stores. If you are creative and detail-oriented, you will enjoy working within this department. Strong consideration is given to candidates with previous retail experience.

Other Internships

As opportunities arise for developing additional talent, we may hire interns in other areas of the business including Finance / Accounting, Advertising / Special Events, MIS, Communications, Human Resources and e-Commerce.


 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduation date between December 2014 - August 2015
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
